How much do we love real wool on these crisp, fresh days? King recently created a couple of our signature pieces in 100% Australian wool as part of the International Campaign for Wool. The worldwide campaign was initiated by Prince Charles to promote wool as the first choice for sustainability, durability and quality.

Our Opera armchair and Bongo ottomans were covered in 100% Australian worsted eco wool, rich in colour. We chose Sense Creativity for the Opera and Atlas Juice for the Bongos. The pieces were showcased at Supa Centa Moore Park in Sydney, which hosted one of a series of events across Australia.

The International Campaign for Wool encourages manufacturers, retailers, designers and consumers to choose real wool. King used EthEco® wool, which comes from sheep raised on holistic-managed farms and undergoes environmentally friendly production processes using low energy consumption, 100% rain and ground water and waste recycling.

The environmental benefits continue into the home with wool absorbing air contaminants – thus improving indoor air quality – and 100% biodegradable and recyclable. With so many environmental advantages it’s hard to go past this natural fibre.

Our resident trends expert, Triana Odone has just returned from the Milan Furniture Fair and here is her exciting report about upcoming trends:

Each year at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, also known as the Milan Furniture Fair, the industry design leaders present the latest trends in furniture design which will in turn influence our Australian interiors. Interpreting and translating these trends is what always makes the next step exciting after the initial showing. These are the emerging directions in leather/fabrics, colour and accessories.

The leather on most sofas beckoned to be felt and the touch was like softened butter in shades of putty, stone grey, mocha and charcoal and on chairs and ottomans in camel. A resurgence of sand blasted leathers, with a slight nod to the eighties but with a more contemporary take, was on a handful of oversized sofas.

Fabrics on sofas in neutral light shades of stone and marle grey prevailed along with a strong showing of tones in mid and dark grey. Bright almost acid colours of yellow, orange, fuschia and purple were peppered throughout and used as accents to highlight accessories such as swivel occasional chairs or ottomans. Emerging was the use of washed out pastel shades of lilac and duck egg blue.

Low pile generously proportioned rugs with a lustrous sheen and in one overall colour were used as an anchor to tie a room setting together. Scatter cushions were layered in a range of sizes and shapes on sofas to create comfort and an inviting appeal.

Accessories were in a variety of materials including glass, timber and polymer. Timber veneers on coffee tables, sofa legs and dining tables ranged from dark oak, walnut through to oak. Bianco Carrara and Brown Emperador marble were also used on coffee, dining and sideboard tops and added another textural element and sophistication.

School of Real Living

King went back to the classroom last month when we presented a workshop in Sydney.

We partnered with Real Living magazine to host the ‘School of Real Living’ and share our insights on the topic: Great Living Rooms and Why They Work.

Our resident trends expert, Triana Odone joined interior designer Jacinta Preston and Real Living editor, Deborah Bibby to speak with 30 guests.

Comfort is a Must!

King provided guests with key insights into choosing a sofa, with Triana Odone highlighting the importance of comfort, and encouraging buyers to road test any potential investments. “Sit on the sofa, feel the texture and comfort factors before you consider buying,” advised Triana.

King Furniture’s advanced Postureflex® seating system delivers deep comfort and guests enjoyed ‘trying out’ King’s Jasper and Carousel sofas. They also watched a demonstration showcasing each sofa’s flexible modular features – witnessing an L shaped sofa transform into a couple of 2-seater sofas and then reconfigure into a spacious sofa bed. Amazing!

Guests also learnt the fundamentals of choosing leather versus fabric sofas. Ultimately it comes down to personal style and usage. If your sofa is going to sit in a high traffic zone – leather might be more durable for spills and marks. Meanwhile if you are after a sofa to snuggle up on for TV, than a quality fabric sofa with soft texturing may be the way to go.

Great Living Rooms and Why They Work.

Interior Designer, Jacinta Preston also shared her Top Tips for a great Living Room:

Sort the sofa – it’s the key investment in the lounge room and needs to be considered carefully

Sort the arrangement of the room – the room needs to multi-task and look ‘gorgeous’ at the same time

Add colour with rugs and chairs

Add feature lights and lamps

Add one unexpected thing i.e. over scale

Add flowers, frames and cushions carefully

Paint the walls

Be brave

It’s your story so make it an epic blockbuster!

Living Room Don’ts from Jacinta Preston:

Don’t put furniture around the outside of the room

Don’t hang artwork too high

Don’t make it a showroom

Don’t ignore the focal point

Don’t use down lights

Don’t make it all match

Don’t skimp on rugs

Do make it yours!

Hopefully you are now inspired to transform your living room to greatness and also choose a sofa that best suits your lifestyle and comfort needs. King Furniture consultants can assist with expert advice on sofa choices, so visit one of our showrooms or check out our website for the latest in sofa news – www.kingfurniture.com.au.

Can your sofa solve your storage problems? Or, adjust to your own personal comfort setting? These are just two of the questions being posed in King’s newest campaign, entitled King Can.
Launching this week, the campaign will showcase the features of King’s most popular sofas including the Delta II, Delta Storage, Strata and Jasper.

So if you have ever thought ‘Why can’t my sofa …?’ here is a sneak peek of our ‘soon to be launched’ campaign. You may find the sofa you are searching for. Which of these sofa needs do you have?

Can your sofa turn into a big comfortable bed? Delta II can! A spare bed always comes in handy – especially when it magically appears from simply reconfiguring your flexible modular Delta sofa. The clever Delta II sofa smoothly transforms into either two single or one spacious queen size bed, which is ideal for hosts needing a flexible option. You and your guests can relax knowing the sofa’s multidensity foam and KingCell seat cushioning system will guarantee a blissful night’s sleep.

Can your sofa solve your storage problems? Delta Storage can! Whilst still offering the signature features of a Delta sofa – modular flexibility, contemporary design and classic comfort – you will also receive generous storage space discreetly located in the base. Beneath the seat you’ll discover valuable space to store bed linen, blankets, pillows and even kids toys!

Can your sofa adjust to your own personal comfort setting? Strata can! Simply slide the floating arm/back layer over the base and you can easily transform from an upright position to deep relaxation – great for curling up with a book or DVD! And if that unexpected guest decides to stay the night, Strata can even transform into an overnight bed, giving your guest such a comfortable night’s sleep that they’ll never want to leave.

Can your sofa give you flexibility? Jasper can! Rearrange your sofa to suit your room – and your mood! Everything that sits on Jasper’s platform can be swiftly swapped around to suit your ever changing lounging style. The options include modular arms and back units in various lengths, soft feather blend seat and back cushions in different sizes, and single or double height shelving, making Jasper the ideal sofa for the flexible family.

So remember, if your sofa can’t… a King sofa can!

Our resident trends expert, Triana Odone, relays what we can expect to see from King Furniture this season:

Triana says:

“We’ve introduced grey tones ranging from silver to gun metal, signifying the dusky sky typical of the autumn change. We love grey tones as they work beautifully to complement our existing house colour palette.”

“We’re also seeing lots of beige and neutral tones this season, with our sofa collection evoking autumn’s earthy coloured leaves. To create the right balance between taupe and biscuit hues we’ve also unveiled bright citron colour patterns to reflect burning maple leaves, which are quintessentially autumn for us.”

Also new to King Furniture this season is our Voyager by Sparkk print and colour way fabric which is exclusive to our showrooms.

The summer holidays are over and whilst it was great to have the kids at home, their indoor games and love of snacking in front of TV and video games was bound to leave an impression on precious sofas.

The King Care team has been swamped with calls these past few weeks from customers in a panic about the state of their lounges now that the summer holidays are over. It seems sticky vegemite fingers, grubby feet and juice spills have left their mark on beautiful sofas everywhere. One customer even called to say her children had smudged fluoro green zinc cream all over her white Delta sofa – Argh!

So if you are at a loss at how to remove spills and stains, contact our helpful King Care team for advice over the phone.

It’s also a good idea to have a King Care Fabric or Leather Kit on standby for everyday inevitable spills. King Care Kits contain a cleaner, protector, sponge and cloth for removing stains with ease.

We also recommend King Care comes to visit your house every 12-18 months for a professional clean to keep your sofa looking brand new for longer.

So if your kids have decorated your lovely sofa with unwanted sticky substances these school holidays, why not give King Care a call on 1300 546 422 and treat yourself to a sparkling clean sofa!

With the busy festive season behind us and summer in full swing, it’s finally time to soak up some sunshine! To help you make the most of your home in the warmer weather, our resident trends expert, Triana Odone shares what’s hot and fresh in home design trends for summer 2012.

Triana says:

This summer is all about the garden – or bringing the great outdoors inside.

“We are seeing a lot of colours and materials dominated by organic textures and plant-based fibres. Our new King Outdoor range incorporates this trend; the base of the furniture is made from hand woven KingWeave in man-made rattan and beautifully finished in an outdoor fabric, called Resort”

A sorbet colour palette – yum!

“Anyone can inject new life into living spaces dominated by neutral tones with dashes of vibrant colours, such as citrus yellow or mandarin orange. Our Andrea sofa has recently been launched in a sorbet yellow, which points
directly to this trend.

Accessories – so much fun!

“Finally, cushions are one of the easiest ways to mix things up – and we have just released a new range of throw cushions in bright, summery colours and fabrics. Fresh flowers also add instant zing, as does a throw or a new lick of paint to an outdated accessory, such as a side table.”

We hope you’re feeling inspired to try one of Triana’s styling tips to transform yourhome into a cool oasis
this summer. Enjoy!
