Design Collaboration Launches Andrea

King Furniture showcased its latest addition, the Andrea sofa, at the State of Design festival in Melbourne. Andrea is the result of the collaboration between King Furniture and renowned designer Charles Wilson, in a new and exciting external partnership. The stage was set for the reveal of the Andrea design, with more than 130,000 people expected to experience one or more of the 75 events across the Festival’s programs.

The design process for the piece began approximately two years ago, when Wilson was invited to study King Furniture’s existing range and enhance the collection with a new design. A designer for over 16 years, Wilson has won a suite of industry awards, including the Home Beautiful Product of the Year Award in 2007 and the Australian Design Award in 2006.

Andrea’s sculptural form adds an exciting dimension to the King Furniture collection. Made to be completely modular, Andrea utilises a unique locking mechanism to slot the arm and back sections into the fame. This allows the sofa to easily morph into several different configurations. Several tables have also been created to fit into the frame for even greater convenience. The unique steel structure and seating suspension system, used in all of King Furniture’s sofas, also supports the multi-dimensional design.

The State of Design Festival is sponsored by King Furniture, and is taking place until 25 July throughout metropolitan Melbourne, and regional centres around Victoria.
