King Furniture was selected as the seating designer for the Australian Pavilion of the 2010 World Expo held in Shanghai, China. The Expo, which began 1 May and concludes 31 October 2010, is expected to attract 200 nations and around 70 million visitors - making it the largest Expo the world has ever seen.
King Furniture is being showcased over three levels of VIP areas at the pavilion revealing a breakthrough sofa design that we created exclusively for the event. Twenty10 is a distinctive, flowing, low-line design that harmonises perfectly with the dramatic architecture of the Australian pavilion.
The aim of this year’s World Expo is to develop and share innovative ideas on future Urban Living, as the percentage of people living in cities continues to grow. We were asked to create a design that embodies the Expo’s theme ‘Better City, Better Life’. We consequently set ourselves the challenge of creating a sofa that provides a high level of personal comfort and durability while using minimal materials and the smallest possible carbon footprint. We are extremely proud of the Twenty10 design, which will be released through King Furniture showrooms later this year.
Our Concerto collection was also chosen for the Commissioner General’s office and meeting room.
China has dedicated 5.28 square kilometres to Expo 2010. King Furniture is proud to be part of a world movement toward a sustainable future, and to be representing Australian innovation, originality and accomplishment.
